  • Inauguration du Centre d’Oncologie de Meknès
  • Meknes  -

HRH Princess Lalla Salma, President of the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment, chaired, on Tuesday 3rd June, the inauguration ceremony of a new regional oncology center of the city of Meknes, worth 56 million dirhams.

The construction of this center, located inside the Moulay Ismail hospital, falls within the framework of the national plan for cancer control and prevention.

After having received details on the center's performances and health care offer in the region of Meknes-Tafilalet, HRH Princess Lalla Salma visited the facility which is built over a surface area of 5400 m2 and which will fill the gap of oncology medical care in the region given that cancer patients used to go the Fez or Rabat centers.

Fruit of a partnership between the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment, the health ministry, the wilaya of the Meknes-Tafilalet region and elected councils, this specialized center includes, besides the administration and general departments, a check-up unit, a radiotherapy treatment unit, a chemotherapy unit, a pharmacy unit, a chemotherapy hospitalization ward and a radiotherapy hospitalization ward.

The center, which can receive up to 2000 patients yearly, seeks to reinforce and diversify health care offer and bring medical services closer to the population, while facilitating access to medical care for cancer treatment in the Meknes-Tafilalet region.

The medical staff of the center, with a very performing technical capacity, is composed of 29 people, including specialists in radiotherapy, chemotherapy and general practitioners, in addition to social workers, and nurses.

The Meknes-Tafilalet region has already 166 centers for breast and uterine cancer early detection, including 70 centers in the urban area and 96 in the rural area.
